Account management

Our account management builds efficient and solid relationships with our customers based on a foundation of trust. The account manager is the most important point of contact for the customer as well as his greatest partner for jointly developing logistics solutions.

Our account management proactively analyzes the needs of the customers, gives advice and explanations of the procedures where necessary and ensures that appropriate solutions are offered. He or she is also responsible for announcing our products and services.

Network statement

Railway companies and other candidates can find all the necessary information about access to and use of the Belgian railway infrastructure in our Network Statement.

Coordination mechanism

Infrabel organises an appropriate coordination mechanism to ensure coordination between applicants, the FPS Mobility and Transport and, where relevant, other stakeholders in the sector.

Your Connection

Are you a business, a business grouping or an economic grouping and do you want to be connected to the Belgian rail network? Click here to see an overview of connection schema and the different possible configurations of a connection.

The creation and/or refurbishment of infrastructure often requires significant investment, without Infrabel having any real certainty about the degree of intensity and sustainability of the connected party's use of this infrastructure. In any configuration type, Infrabel will only finance the material cost of the junction, i.e. the cost of any necessary switches and a maximum of 18 metres of track. The installation cost of the infrastructure necessary for the junction, i.e. the labour and the specific adaptations needed to implement the junction, is to be covered by the connected party.

Here you can find more detailed information on the financing of the works

Your Tracks

With Your Tracks we make part of the available rail infrastructure available to private companies. This is done at a standard rental price. And what about the maintenance of the rented infrastructure? No worries, we still take care of that. Tell us more about your needs, and our services will offer you the best solution.

Your TechnicalControl

Infrabel is responsible for the technical inspection of rolling stock used for off-path journeys on its network. By means of the technical inspection, Infrabel makes sure that the traction equipment:

  •  meets the safety requirements laid down by law;
  •  is capable of reading the safety equipment located on the planned routes;
  •  can be detected by the various detection devices located on the planned routes;
  •  cannot cause material damage or disruption to the infrastructure.

Book your capacities

In addition to railway undertakings with a permit and a safety certificate, other applicants (charterers or forwarders) can also request capacity on the network. To do this, they must conclude a capacity agreement

Your Moves

A flexible system for reserving train paths: that’s Your Moves. This gives you, as a railway undertaking, the possibility to submit or change your short- and long-term capacity requests. Our employees determine the service schedule by matching your specific needs with the availability of the network.

You have access to the reservation applications via the Business Corner, where you can manage and track your requests 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All your transport data is therefore at your fingertips in just a few clicks.

Your XXL

Exceptional rail freight?

That is to say:

A load that is wider, higher and/or lower than the Belgian load profile
A load that exceeds the permitted load category
A load that has to be loaded on several cars
Equipment that is not approved for our network
No problem! With Your XXL we already have the right solution.

To be admitted, an application must first be submitted to the Office for Exceptional Transport so that they can carry out a feasibility study.
This is how you do it:

  1. Prepare an application based on Appendix A of the UIC 502 file. This file can be purchased on the website UIC.  (The simplified form that you can find here does NOT contain all necessary information. Only the UIC 502 file contains everything you need to follow the correct procedure!)
  2. Send the completed form by e-mail to

Combined transport

Various transport modes are involved in combined transport: rail transport, road transport, air and maritime transport. In that case, all loading units (containers, trailers, containers) must be approved and must bear the yellow coding plate (cf. EN13044).

In order to approve the unit we test whether the loading units can withstand the loads during transport and at the terminals. This is done on the basis of the ISO and CEN standards and the UIC sheets. After these tests, the applicant receives a certificate with which he can affix the yellow codification plate to the ILU. This enables the SO to determine the correct travel route in a safe manner.

Containers: ISO 1496 part 3 and ISO 6346 - UIC sheet 592-2
Loading crates: CEN EN 284, EN 452 - UIC sheet 592-4
Semi-trailers: UIC file 596-5
Test protocols: CEN EN 283 - UIC file 592-3
Codification of the units: UIC file 596-6
Identification of containers and trailers: EN13044

Capacity reservation agreement

The capacity reservation agreement defines the respective rights and obligations of each party, in particular the terms and conditions concerning the products offered and their invoicing.

The capacity reservation agreement is an essential prerequisite for the allocation of the requested capacity.

Usage fee

If you use the Belgian rail infrastructure, you pay us a fee for the used train path. We determine the rates and we invoice and collect the usage fee. The rate determination is based on various parameters. For example, the weight of the train, the distance to be covered, the priority of transport, and so on.

The 4 components of the usage fee

The usage fee consists of four components:

  1. the train path-line charge for the use of the continuous rail lines
  2. the train path-installation charge for the use of the platform tracks and some arrival and departure tracks
  3. the shunting charge for the use of shunting installations
  4. the administrative costs for handling the capacity requests

Do you want more information about the calculation of the usage fee? You can find this in the Network statement.

Utilisation charge applicable as from the 2021 service timetable

To comply with European requirements, the infrastructure utilisation charge will be determined according to a new methodology as from the 2021 service timetable.

The utilisation charge consists of the following elements:

  • direct line cost: the cost directly attributable to the operation of the rail service
  • Ramsey-Boiteux mark-up: is added to the direct line cost and is calculated according to the inverse elasticity of demand rule. The level of this mark-up depends on the segment, the train circulation period and the density class of the lines crossed.
  • direct catenary cost (Your Power): covers the use of power supply systems for traction current and applies only to actual traffic.
  • access to service facilities (Your Facilities)

More information about the changes in the calculation of the utilisation charge can be found in the attached document (only available in French and Dutch).

Freight corridor

Since 1 January 2007, domestic and international freight transport has been fully open to competition. To improve the quality of the services provided and the efficiency of rail freight transport, and thus promote sustainable mobility, the European Union has defined eleven international freight corridors (RFC – Rail Freight Corridors), three of which pass through Belgium. These are European freight routes that cross several Member States. Intensive collaboration between European infrastructure managers for each corridor is essential to ensure the smooth movement of freight.
